| History: |
John 'Quincy' Taggart was born August 8th 2113 to Michael and Ciara. His parents owned a large farm just outside Riverside, Iwoa. He was exposed to life on the farm at a very young age, as he often went along with his father when he tending the farm animals.
He went to school in Riverside where he had many friends. Often in the evenings getting up to mischief. John's only bother, William, was born 2124. Both borthers developed a close bond and soon were inseperable.
After he graduating in 2130 from High School, John chose to persue a career in teaching, and this took him away from Riverside for the first time. In college, he began to develop an interest in astromomy and space travel. He followed the early stages of Warp Engine expierments with a keen interest.
Once he was qualified in 2133, he returned to Riverside and began teaching in the same High School that he had attended at young age. He taught Science and Astronomy, instilling his interest in the two subjects on his students. His classes were never empty, as impressionable students crammed into the classroom, listening intently to every word.
As time passed by, John began to feel that there was something more to just High School teaching. In 2138, he decided to take a year out and decide what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. He travelled all around America, Europe and Asia before finally settling in San Franciso.
One evening as he was enjoying a cool beer in a local bar, he overhead a group talking about a freighter ship, The Icon. They were looking for a science officer, so John got to talking with them and after a few more rounds, he was hired for the job.
For the next 3 years, John served as science officer aboard the Icon on he made many cargo runs. Some of which were quite dangerous as they often ran into pirates. In his 4th year of service, he was made first mate of the Icon.
In 2144, during a few days of shore leave in Earth, he had a chance meeting with a beautiful woman. Her name was Alison Summers. It was love at first sight. The couple spent a week together before John had to return to the Icon for its next cargo run. They agreed to meet each other in 6 month.
Those 6 months were the longest that John every had to live through as he counted down the days and hours until he was with Alison again.
The 6 months finally passed and when they were re-united again, John proposed. Alison immediately accepted and they were married in a small ceremony 2 weeks later.
In 2147, John and Alison had a son. They named him Samuel, after Alison's father. Alison remained on earth with Samuel when John was offworld with the Icon. In the same year, John was made captain of the Icon when its former commander retired. Now he was able to pick the cargo runs such that he was on Earth more often with his wife and son.
Soon John wanted to spent more time with his family, so an opportunity presented itself in 2149. The newly formed Starfleet were looking for expierenced Captains to join them. So, John left the Icon and entered a year long training course at Starfleet Academy. He now had all the time in the world to spend with his yound son and beautiful wife.
John was given command of the U.E.S. Challenger, Venus class ship, in 2150, after he had completed his Starfleet training. In that year he befriended Admiral Forrest. The Challenger was mostly assigned to patrols of the solar system while the Enterprise, launched in 2151, travelled further afield. John preferred to be closer to home, his family being the driving force behind that decison.
Tragedy struck in 2153, when the Challenger was on assignment to an Earth colony. A Xindi probe launched a surprise and unprovoked attack on the Florida coast, killing 7 million people. Among the dead was John's only son. Samuel was on a school trip at the time.
He never forgave himself for being away from his family and 2 months after the attack, he resigned his commission from Starfleet. The loss of his son hit him hard, making him distant. A rift formed between Alison and himself and they soon seperated. John found some consolation at the bottom of a bottle and for the next year of so, he lost his way.
In 2154, Starfleet upped its production of NX class ships. With many of the Captains in the fleet still relatively inexpierenced, Admiral Forrest brought Taggart back into the fold. After an intensive rehab, a now sober Taggart, started to his life back on track.
The loss of his son was still with him, but he decided that he best way for him to honor his sons memory was to get his own life in order.
John 'Quincy' Taggart was assigned to command the next NX vessel to come of the assembly line at the Warp 5 complex in order of Earth. The ship was named Endeavour. |
